Cleaning Kitchen Carpet Spills

Dealing With Kitchen Carpet Spills

Spills and soiling on your kitchen carpet can be removed in most instances. But they require prompt reaction on your part. It is hoped that after reading this article, you will know what to do when your child’s bowlful of cereals tumbles off the kitchen table or some careless member of the household enters through the yard and sullies the carpet with muddy shoes.

The first thing to remember is not to let the spill sit on the carpet for any length of time. The larger the spatter and the longer it stays unattended, the greater the chance it will seep deeper into the padding until it reaches the floor boards. That’s the type of mess that will require extensive cleaning.

Never allow any spills to sit for long on the carpet. Otherwise, it will go deeper in the carpet and will be harder to remove. If the spill is considerably large, the carpet may require extensive cleaning because the spill is likely to seep into the carpet, into the padding and onto the floor boards.

When you are trying to remove spills from the kitchen carpet, avoid rubbing on the spot because doing so this will tend to work the slop deeper into the carpet’s fibers, making it more difficult for the stain to come off. Do some blotting instead. That is, put small amounts of pressure on the affected area so the paper towel or cloth in your hand will absorb the slosh.

After blotting, make your carpet cleaner go to work. You probably own one if you maintain carpets at home. Additionally, you may make use of stain removers or some similar product that is available from the market. It’s actually a good idea to have one or two of these on hand, so the spot won’t sit waiting till you’ve bought one. So, not only do you need to move with dispatch, you also have to be proactive when it comes to carpet spot removal!

Keep in mind that the kitchen is one of the busiest areas in your home and as such, kitchen carpet spills are inevitable. So when a spill occurs, make sure that you clean the carpet right away.

Speaking of preparedness, regular cleaning of the carpet will help, especially in the kitchen, where spatters are not only inevitable, but may occur frequently. Dirty carpets spell dirtier spills that are harder to remove. So, if you maintain a clean carpet, clearing up unexpected messes as they occur will be easier.
