Contemporary Carpet Trends
Carpets used to be treated by interior designers mainly as neutral background
in rooms, with colors hardly ever deviating from basic beige. Today, with the
myriad colors, patterns and textures available, the carpet’s role is expanding
to include being a focal point of indoor designs.
The neutral carpet has not disappeared, though. Berber has remained popular, but
has been updated to include greater variety in texture and pattern, unlike the
plain designs of the early 1990s. Even Berber designs intended to be traditional
now offer greater visual interest. Radical changes in pile cuts are producing
thicker and deeper loop textures.
The sprinkling of color against a neutral background adds a new dimension to the
Berbers, and helps to conceal stains as well. Neutral colors as background now
include other hues like tan and cream.
Colors and Textures Galore
The trend in carpeting has been shifting towards color layering and soft
texture. Advantages of this combination of carpet pattern and texture include
concealment of soil and vacuum marks, and greater possibilities for style and
fashion.
New Fiber Constructions
Advanced manufacturing technologies have ushered in a revolution of sorts in the
ways in which cuts and loop yarns are constructed. Swirls, lattices, bows,
plaids and pin dots are examples of new fiber constructions that have emerged.
Carpets are now used to add interest to a room and complement florals, stripes
and other design patterns on walls, windows and furniture. These and many other
improvements have raised the perceived value of carpets.
Carpets have gone a long way from being simple floor coverings. They are now
capable of dramatically raising the warmth and comfort levels of homes. Also,
carpets have become easier than ever to maintain.
Isn’t it about time you replaced those old, dull and outmoded carpets of your
living spaces with the colorful and life-giving carpets of today? |
