Carpet Tiles for Your Floor Covering
If you like your floor carpeted, why not try the tile type of covering
instead of the traditional wall-to-wall installation? The advantages of carpet
tiles are many, as are available materials and designs. Geometric, bordered,
contemporary and bamboo concepts are some of them, to name a few. Carpet tiles
make versatile materials for your floor makeover.
Carpet tiles vary in thickness and density. The thicker carpet tiles have more
cushion to them and are ideal for homes. Carpet tiles also provide some degree
of thermal insulation. The thinner varieties of carpet tiles, usually made with
rubber, linoleum, vinyl and foam, make good floor coverings for children’s
playrooms, gyms, offices and high-traffic spaces.
The carpet tiles are generally easy to maintain and have long life cycles. They
cost anywhere between $1 and $40 per square foot.
Designs and patterns vary widely and may be specially selected to achieve some
aesthetic effect. Bamboo and terra cotta carpet tiles, for example, can make
your interior look like a veritable greenhouse or give it an earthly feel.
There’s just greater room for creativity. Tiles need not be installed as a
single design or color, and may be mixed and matched to create borders or
distinctive patterns. You can liven up the room or play it down, depending on
desired outcome.
Practically every taste and budget can be accommodated by carpet tiles --
overall, they cost less to have than the wall-to-wall kind.
Other clear advantages of carpet tiles over wall-to-wall include the ease with
which they can be carried, transported, and installed. They can in fact be
mounted on your floor with only minimal moving about of furniture. Carpet tiles
are also very durable, but should replacement due to wear or staining be
necessary, you don’t even have to ask the help of a professional. All you need
to do is replace the tile with a new one.
As with most of the other types of floor covering, there are important
installation guidelines to follow. Carpet tiles should be laid only on firm
surfaces, like cement, stone and ceramic tiles. The bare floor should be made
clean and smooth prior to installation to ensure strong adhesion and respectable
workmanship. There is no need for placement of inner linings. All cushions or
padding are already built into each tile. |
